Kinesio taping, or kinesiology taping, was developed in the 1970s by a Japanese chiropractor named Dr. Kenzo Kase. The practice of kinesio taping utilizes strong, flexible tape that provides protection and support to injured muscles and tendons, but doesn’t limit movement or obstruct use of the affected area.

At North Dover Chiropractic Wellness Centre, our experienced treatment providers offer holistic, all-natural, whole-body wellness care. If you’re interested in learning more about how you can benefit from kinesio taping in Toms River, give us a call.

How Does Kinesio Taping Work?

Kinesiology tape is very flexible and stretchy, and is made of cotton and nylon. It is designed to imitate the skin’s elasticity so you can use your full range of motion. It is also water-resistant and designed to stay on your skin for three to five days. By pulling the upper layers of the skin, kinesio taping creates space between your skin and the tissues beneath it, reducing the chance of joint irritation.

Kinesio taping also creates a lift that unloads the pressure on underlying tissues. It can also improve circulation and reduce swelling in an injured area of the body.

Benefits of Kinesio Taping

Kinesio taping can reduce pain, inflammation, and swelling, and promote healthy blood flow and increased healing. Our experienced treatment providers use kinesio taping to improve the stability of injured limbs, decrease pressure on injured muscles and tendons, decrease stress on a ligament or tendon, and either assist or limit motion of an injured limb.

We have also found success using kinesio taping in Toms River to reduce the appearance of bruising, scarring, adhesions, and pitting due to injuries. Kinesio taping can improve the pliability and appearance of injured skin much more quickly than other treatment methods.
